Saperavi is one of the most important varieties of grapes in the Caucasus, widely spread in Europe in the XIX century. Thus, Saperavi can be considered the progenitor of many great red wines. Grapes of the Saperavi variety can withstand both a long drought and Siberian frosts. Saperavi for this wine is grown in Kakheti. The soil here is rich in limestone and marl.
